DAY TWO: Type I Experiences

HEIGHTEN ANTICIPATION
What can you provide students to heighten their anticipation of the lesson? This should be brief and thought provoking. Locate a set of interesting images or a curious quotation. Think of this as a POINT TO PONDER.

New York Public Library Digital Collection
Project Apollo Archive
Pixabay

STIMULATE INTEREST
Provide an engaging set of new information. This could be an interesting video, an online simulation, a virtual field trip, or other resource to entice your students’ thinking.

POSSIBLE RESOURCES

YouTube Education
Crash Course
TED Ed
PBS Digital Studios

Skype In The Classroom

DEEPEN UNDERSTANDING
The real MAGIC happens when students are asked to think deeply about their experiences and communicate their understanding with others. Here are some SEM:Tech Graphic Organizers to get you started.

AEIOU
CONNECT EXTEND WONDER
CSI: COLOR / SYMBOL / IMAGE

HEXAGONAL THINKING
THE BULL'S EYE

EXTEND THE EXPERIENCE
You should have some viable options for your students in place should they want to further explore the topic presented in your TYPE I Experience. Think of TYPE II Skills that students might need in order to be successful. Also, have some ideas about some possible TYPE III products and investigations they might explore.

Use this PLANNER to develop your ideas for a SEM:Tech Type I.

Post your examples on this Google Doc.

DAY THREE: Type II Methods and Skills

EDCAMP UNCONFERENCE
We will be using an unconference model today. The questions you should consider are:
  • What are some TECH problems that you might like to solve?
  • What TECH Skills do you want to develop in you / in your students?
  • How would you like to use TECH to be productive?

Once you have considered these questions, follow these steps:
Step 1: Identify 3 technology skills you would like to learn about (yes, your answer to the questions above).
Step 2: Write your name and one skill on each of your three post-it notes.
Step 3: Stick your post-it notes on the front board.

DAY FOUR: Type III and FutureCasting

S.W.O.T.
Strengths
  • What unique skills do I have?
  • What resources do I have access to?
  • Who do I know that can help me?
  • What experiences have I had that will help me help students move forward?

Weaknesses
  • What do I need to improve?
  • What is something I would like to change?
  • What aspects (of my teaching, classroom, etc.) need to change to make Type III learning a possibility?

Opportunities
  • What opportunities can I make available for my students?
  • How can I stretch my definition of opportunities?
  • Who might be willing to help me?

Threats
  • What could hinder my success?
  • What are potential problems I could encounter?
  • What are the challenges I face?
  • What are the restrictions exist that I need to work around?

To complete your own S.W.O.T. Analysis, find pictures that represent the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in your professional life that might effect your ability to implement Type III learning. For each picture you find, locate the picture on a Cartesian coordinate system (SEM:Tech SWOT). The x axis will range from weaknesses to strengths, and the y axis will range from threats to opportunities. As you place each picture on the Cartesian plane, make sure to consider where the picture best fits on the plane and provide a caption that explains why you placed the picture in that quadrant.
